Ductless mini splits offer versatile home cooling and heating solutions for homeowners across the country. This is accomplished with ductless mini split compact components and advanced features that can comfortably cool and heat in extreme weather conditions. Use these operating tips to maximize comfort and savings from your ductless mini split.
Maximizing Airflow
Ductless mini splits manipulate high-efficiency refrigerant to extract and move heat energy between the home and outside air. Free airflow is needed at each indoor air handling unit (AHU) and the outdoor compressor/condenser unit.
Check the following components monthly during peak usage:
- Air filter – Mitsubishi Electric ductless mini splits offer multi-stage filtration to remove particles, germs and odors from the home. Clean and dry the filters regularly.
- Air handling unit – Remove the AHU cabinet and wipe down the evaporator coil with a soft cloth. You may use foaming coil cleaner for heavy debris.
- Compressor/condenser unit – Periodically check the outdoor components for vegetation and debris that blocks airflow. Use a garden hose each season to clean the unit, making sure to turn off power first. If your region of the U.S. experiences snowfall and ice, keep the outside unit free of these natural elements, too.
Clear Drainage
In cool mode, the evaporator coil accumulates water from condensation that should drain away through condensate suction tubing. During the cooling months, check the outdoor unit to ensure the ductless mini split is draining properly. If you don’t notice any condensate, call your ductless technician for a system inspection.
Temperature Control
Ductless systems are simple to operate and come standard with a wireless handheld controls. Use “auto” modes for zone temperature and fan settings. If you’ve adjusted the setting to a comfortable temperature, the ductless system will do all the work to maintain temperatures to one degree. “Auto” fan mode allows the ductless system to utilize the most efficient airflow speed at any given time for maximum energy savings. If the controls become unresponsive, tap the reset button located at the bottom.
