A ceremony was held recently to honor Les Duncklee, the late founder of Duncklee Cooling & Heating in Stonington.
A weeping cherry tree, his favorite type of tree, symbolizing growth, endurance and strength, was placed in the ground in the front of the business. Also, a stone was placed next to the tree, saying “A Weeping Cherry Tree Planted in Memory of Our Founder Les Duncklee, Who Inspired Us With His Courage, Knowledge, Perseverance & Vision. Duncklee, Inc., Incorporated 1973.”
Also, a scholarship fund has been established for students interested in HVAC technical education, to be in place in the 2014-2015 school year, working with Norwich Tech, Stonington High School, and New England Tech, “to help young people interested in going into this type of career, all consistent with Les’s principles, to continue his work helping others,” said Jonathan Duncklee, who took over as president upon his father’s death.
